Jennifer Granholm was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on February 5, 1959. She is the daughter of Shirley Alfreda and Victor Ivar Granholm, both of whom were immigrants from Finland. She went on to get her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1984.
